A fire, reported at under an acre in size, has been spotted northwest of Monument, according to the U.S. Forest Service.

The fire – named the Metz fire – was initially reported by the Forest Service on Tuesday afternoon at just a tenth of an acre and was caused by lightning, according to the Pike & San Isabel National Forests website.

The Forest Service said a small hand crew was on the scene. Also, two helicopters were called in to drop water on the fire to limit spread, which have been successful.

The fire was reported in a remote wooded portion of the Pike National Forest in Douglas County west of Larkspur. The Forest Service said it was first reported around 4 p.m. Tuesday. There is no current containment estimate on the blaze. No structures were threatened, and no evacuation warnings were issued as of 7 p.m. Tuesday.
