Woman found last month with missing Denver teen charged with child abuse
The Colorado Springs Police Department announced the charges of a woman who was found last month with a teenager she falsely claimed was her son.
The woman is facing charges including child abuse of the 14-year-old teen. The teen, who was given a false identity by the woman, was a reported runaway from Denver who was missing since December 2023. He has since been reunited with his family.
CSPD’s Homeless Outreach Team arrested the woman on June 6 near a drainage ditch south of the 600 block of West Garden of the Gods road after they found her with narcotics and evidence of financial crimes involving seven victims.
During questioning, they discovered the true identity of the missing teen.
“The Violent Crimes Section will continue to investigate the complex relationship between the suspect and the juvenile, ensuring all aspects of the case are thoroughly examined,” a CSPD Facebook post said.
Other charges the woman faces includes criminal possession of a financial device, misdemeanor drug possession and possession of drug paraphernalia.
