Crews are closing a small portion of South Nevada Avenue overnight Wednesday, between Brookside Street and the Interstate 25 ramps, to remove a traffic signal.

South Nevada Avenue will close from 9 p.m. Wednesday through 5 a.m. Thursday. Crews will remove a traffic signal at the intersection of South Nevada, East Motor Way and East Arvada Street, according to a Monday afternoon news release from the city.

Travelers should expect delays and seek alternate routes during the closure, city officials said.

Detours around the construction work will be in place.

Northbound traffic on South Nevada should take Brookside Street west to South Tejon Street, then head north to the I-25 South connector road, then travel east to South Nevada.

Southbound traffic on South Nevada Avenue should go west on the the I-25 North connector road, then travel south on South Tejon Street to Brookside Street, and then head east to South Nevada.

Eastbound traffic on East Motor Way should take South Tejon Street north to the I-25 south connector road and then travel east to South Nevada Avenue; or go south on South Tejon Street to Brookside Street, then head east to South Nevada.

Westbound traffic on East Arvada Street is advised to go south on South Wahsatch Avenue to Brookside Street, then head west to South Nevada Avenue; or take South Wahsatch Avenue south to Brookside Street, then travel west to South Tejon, then north to the I-25 South connector road and travel east again to South Nevada.

Officials said if construction is interrupted by weather or auto crashes, the road will close again beginning at 9 p.m. Thursday through 5 a.m. Friday.

The work is part of a $9.1 million voter-approved Pikes Peak Rural Transportation Authority project to “increase safety and efficiency” for travelers at the I-25 Tejon Street and Nevada Avenue interchange.
