Colorado Springs father arrested in 2021 infant death
More than three years after the death of an infant in Colorado Springs, the father has been arrested, police said Friday in a news release.
The infant, less than three months old, was brought to an area hospital on May 26, 2021. The child was “severely injured” and died of its injuries June 2, police said. Months later an autopsy conducted by the El Paso County Coroner’s office ruled the infant’s death a homicide.
On Friday, 24-year-old Josiah Whiteley was arrested and faces first-degree murder changes. Whiteley is currently incarcerated at a state correctional facility on charges unrelated to the death of his child.
Whiteley was featured in the Pikes Peak Crime Stoppers’ bulletin in July and August 2022, sought on suspicion of felony menacing, kidnapping, possession of weapon by previous offender, burglary, child abuse, assault, protection order violation, criminal mischief, trespass and telephone obstruction.
He was reported as being arrested and placed into county jail as of Feb. 8 of this year on charges of menacing and violation of a restraining order.
Anyone with information or who is a witness to the child’s death is asked to call Colorado Springs police at 719-444-7000; or if you wish to remain anonymous, you may call the Crime Stoppers Tip Line at 719-634-STOP (7867) or 1-800-222-8477.
