Three identified after wrong-way crash on I-25 last weekend in Colorado Springs

Speed cameras coming to Colorado roadways amid alarming increase in construction zone deaths

The El Paso County Coroner’s Office has confirmed the identities of the three people who were killed along Interstate 25 last weekend, according to Gazette news partner KOAA.

The two drivers involved in a head-on collision have been identified as 37-year-old Dalisse Rivera-Albino and 46-year-old Heidi Jackson. The third victim of the incident was identified as 64-year-old Joel Montalvo of Fort Collins, who had stepped out of his vehicle to assist the injured from the crash.

Previous reports by the Gazette state a Kia Sportage was driving south in the northbound lanes of the interstate near Martin Luther King Jr. Bypass when it collided with a Volkswagen. Following the crash, Montalvo was struck by another vehicle as he exited his vehicle.

The driver of the Kia Sportage was identified as Rivera-Albino and the Volkswagen driver was identified as Jackson.

Jackson and Montalvo were pronounced dead on the scene. Rivera-Albino was taken to a hospital where they died of their injuries.

This is still an ongoing and active investigation and at this time, drugs and/or alcohol are considered factors in this crash.

These were the 21st, 22nd and 23rd traffic fatalities in Colorado Springs this year. At this time last year, there were 19 traffic fatalities. In the last 365 days, there have been 54 traffic fatalities in Colorado Springs.
