Tickets, Thunderbirds and more: 6 things to know about the 2024 AFA graduation ceremony

Off we go into the wild blue yonder…

It is finally time for the Air Force Academy Class of 2024.

Not only do Air Force cadets graduate from the academy but they more importantly commission into the U.S. Air Force or U.S. Space Force as a second lieutenant.

This special feat is marked by various celebrations, significant speakers and notable traditions.


When is the Air Force Academy graduation ceremony?

The ceremony begins at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 30, 2024, at Falcon Stadium. Gates open at 6:30 a.m. Performances by the Sabre Drill Team, In the Stairwell, The Aerodynamics and the U.S. Air Force Academy Band begin at 8 a.m. and end around 9:15 a.m.


Are tickets open to the public?

Yes. Tickets for the public are available starting Wednesday, May 22 at 9 a.m. They are available at the Tri-Lakes Chamber of Commerce in Monument and the Colorado Springs Visitor Center.


Where are visitors able to park?

There are multiple parking lots around Falcon Stadium available for visitors. Lot 1 is reserved for staff. Lots 2 and 3 are for visitors coming from South Gate. Lots 4, 5 and 5A are for visitors coming from North Gate. Once the ceremony begins, visitors will not be permitted to enter.


Who is the 2024 Air Force Academy commencement speaker?

The 2024 Air Force Academy commencement speaker is Vice President Kamala Harris. This is her first time speaking to an Air Force Academy graduating class. Be aware that there could be temporary road closures and increased traffic as a result of the vice president’s motorcade.


When will the Thunderbirds fly over?

The Thunderbirds will fly over around 1:15 p.m. as the graduation ceremony ends. The public can also see the Thunderbirds practice the day before graduation, Wednesday, May 29, at around 10:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.


Who is the Air Force Academy class of 2024?

The class of 2024’s class motto is Uniter Sustinemus meaning “United We Endure.” This class of cadets endured the challenging impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. Class leadership, photo galleries and more can be viewed on the Air Force Academy class of 2024’s website.
