With summer drawing people to Palmer Lake as usual, the Town of Palmer Lake recently approved a series of events, some staples of the season and others new, to start shaping the town’s calendar of summer events.

The Palmer Lake Board of Trustees recently approved at its regular May 9 meeting at town hall an event permit for Theatreworks, based in Colorado Springs, to perform its production of Shakespeare’s Two Gentlemen from Verona. The performance is scheduled to be June 22. Coordinated with the Palmer Lake Arts Council, there will be two performances including informational events. The first is 1 p.m. with its informational event and the performance at 2 p.m. The second is 5 p.m. for the informational event and performance at 6 p.m.

Performances will be in the Village Green but will move into Palmer Lake Town Hall if bad weather happens. The Shakespeare in the Park event is the same as the production last year but involving a different Shakespeare play. Attendance is expected to be in the neighborhood of 150 patrons.

Wishing Star Farms, an event where farm animals are brought to town, and is part of the library’s reading program from the local presence of the Pikes Peak Library District (PPLD). This is expected to be a one-hour event, anticipating 25-30 participants. The event is June 27 also on the Village Green.

Summer Adventure Concert is also a PPLD event which presents a featured musician at the gazebo at Village Green as well. The event is expected to draw more than the Wishing Star Farms event, 100-plus, and is scheduled for 8 p.m. that day.

“This is really for kids,” town administrator Dawn Collins said. “It’s a children’s musician conducting the event.”

In addition, the PPLD was approved to hold summer concerts Aug. 23, 30 and Sept. 6 on the Village Green. Each of these events are between 6-7 p.m. and patrons are encouraged to bring chairs and blankets. Attendance is typically 150.

The board also approved the Palmer Lake Elementary School Fun Run in its 42nd year. Organizers said the permits from Monument and El Paso County have already been acquired. Porta-potties are to be placed near the start line of the fun run to not be confused with the facilities provided for the town’s Festival on the Fourth (July) event.

Last year, there were about 870 participants in the fun run, but 500 who actually picked up packets the day of the run, of which the end of its run course was in Monument where the Monument Kiwanis parade ends.
