A major CDOT improvement project continues on Highway 115 from Colorado Springs to Penrose.

The project is adding passing and right turn lanes while resurfacing the roadway and repairing Rock Creek Bridge.

The road is reduced to one lane in each direction and the speed limit through the construction zone is 45 mph. the project, started in 2022, is set to be completed this summer.

Airport Road

Starting May 20 and lasting through the summer, east- and westbound Airport Road is closed west of South Academy as workers complete “various underground utility and intersection improvements,” according to the project website. The closure extends from just west of Lakewood Circle, eastward to South Academy, a project closure map shows. Project officials have not given an exact date they expect Airport Road to reopen.

Drivers should expect delays and use alternative routes during the closure.

Motorists on Airport Road can detour around the closure by traveling north to Pikes Peak Avenue using Chelton Road or South Academy Boulevard for east and west access.

Boychuk runs parallel to South Academy Boulevard.

The main entrance into the Lamplighter neighborhood is fully closed. Neighborhood traffic must use the southern entrance.

Motorists who need to access businesses on Boychuk north of the Lamplighter neighborhood can use Hancock Expressway. Travelers can access Boychuk Avenue south of the neighborhood via Drennan Road.

Boychuck Avenue will close again from May 31 through June 7.

The road closures will help crews more quickly install an underground waterline and complete new paving along Boychuck and South Academy, the project website states.

Work will take place along US 24, between Garrett Rd to Smith Ranch Rd, improving the road and guardrails on the north and southbound sides.
