A burglary suspect faces assault charges after allegedly biting and spitting on a Colorado Springs police officer early Wednesday, according to law enforcement officials.

Leann Gamm, 47, was taken into custody after CSPD received a 2:25 a.m. call about a burglary in progress in the 2300 block of Lelaray Street, near Union Boulevard and Constitution Avenue, police said. Officials did not specify whether Gamm is accused of breaking into a home or a business. Gamm’s listed home address is on the same block where she was arrested.

Arriving officers arrested her on suspicion of first-degree burglary. As she was being taken into custody, she allegedly spit on, and then bit, one of the arresting officers, police said.

Gamm was “cleared for preexisting injuries” at a local hospital before being booked into El Paso County jail, officials said.
