Colorado Gov. Jared Polis on Tuesday decried President Biden’s latest imposition of tariffs on goods manufactured in China. 

“This is horrible news for American consumers and a major setback for clean energy,” Polis tweeted in response to Biden’s post announcing a 25% tariff on steel and aluminum, 50% on semiconductors and solar panels, and 100% on electric vehicles.

“Tariffs are a direct, regressive tax on Americans and this tax increase will hit every family,” the governor, a Democrat, said.  

Biden said that he is imposing the tariffs because “China is determined to dominate these industries,” and he is “determined ensure America leads the world in them.”

China produces more steel, aluminum, electric vehicles, and solar panels than anywhere else in the world, while Taiwan is the leading producer of semiconductors.
