The National Park Service says strong winds and whiteout conditions have prevented search efforts Tuesday for missing 23-year-old Colorado Springs hiker Lucas Macaj, who went missing Sunday on Longs Peak.

The Parks Service said that rescue teams were unable to reach parts of the summit trail, including the Loft area and the Keyhole Route.

Search teams did hike and snowshoe above Black Lake while “glassing,” or canvassing with long-distance viewing equipment like binoculars, the area below the Trough and the Ledges on the mountain.

Macaj is described as 5’9″, 155 lbs with brown hair and green eyes. He was last heard from around 1 p.m. on Sunday, texting a friend that he had reached the summit of Longs Peak, the park’s tallest mountain.
