Colorado Springs weather: High wind warning Monday, cooler
Colorado Springs residents should prepare for high winds on Monday, especially before noon, according to Gazette news partner KOAA.
The National Weather Service has issued a high wind warning until noon Monday, with winds between 40-50 mph and gusts to 95 mph. Winds will persist throughout the day.
“Wicked winds may have woken you up in the middle of the night, and so far this morning, the wind remains strong and gusty across the Pikes Peak region,” KOAA 5 Meteorologist Alan Rose said.
“A high wind warning will remain in effect until noon for the southern mountains, the foothills, Teller County and eastern Fremont County. Gusts in some areas are expected to top 80 mph through the lunch hour, with the strongest gusts on the eastern mountain slopes.”
Gusts are expected to range between 40-60 mph, with even stronger gusts in the foothills, Rose said. The high temperature is expected to be about 60 degrees.
“On top of the wind today, red flag warnings will remain in effect from 10 a.m., to 10 p.m., for the San Luis Valley and southeastern Plains,” he said. “For the mountains, heavy snow is expected to impact travel most of today.”
