Scheduled closure along Airport Road to last through May 9

A full closure of Airport Road in Colorado Springs is now in place through May 9, according to a Colorado Springs Utilities statement.

A full closure of Airport Road began Monday on the east side of South Academy Boulevard to allow for crews to place underground utility lines across South Academy between Platte Avenue and Airport Road.

Multiple detours are in place for drivers.

According to officials, those traveling eastbound will detour south on South Academy Boulevard, to Fountain Boulevard. Drivers will then head east on Murray Boulevard before turning north to access Airport Road.

For those traveling westbound, drivers will detour north on Murray Boulevard to Pikes Peak Avenue, head west on South Academy, and turn south to access Airport Road from the west.

“Once work is completed on the east side of South Academy Boulevard, crews will begin operations on the west side. Impacts will be in place on Airport Road through this fall,” CSU said.

Although work is scheduled to end on May 9, utilities crews “will make every effort to complete operations and reopen the roadway ahead of schedule,” officials said.
