While most Colorado Springs residents might want to pack an umbrella this weekend, the National Weather Service in Pueblo says some high-elevations might see some late-April snow as well.

Friday is expected to be mostly cloudy, with a high of about 64 degrees, the weather agency said. The chance of rain is expected to increase throughout the day, with a possibility of thunderstorms after 3 p.m.

Parts of western El Paso County and Teller County are also under a winter storm warning as of Friday afternoon. The weather service says these areas are likely to be impacted by moderate to heavy wet snow starting Friday evening and continuing into Sunday.

The NWS warns of “impactful accumulation” especially across Teller County.

“More than a foot of snow will be possible in the mountains above 9,000 feet this weekend, with as much as 3-9″ of accumulation for Woodland Park,” Rose said. “Travel impacts, delays, closures should be expected.”

Colorado Springs will also experience two areas of large low pressure systems passing through the Pikes Peak region over the weekend.

Meteorologist Alan Rose with Gazette news partner KOAA concurs, saying “as the second, stronger and colder system arrives on Saturday, our weather will take a turn for the worse.”

Rose also said, that the timing isn’t great, as Saturday will be a super soaker of a day, especially for areas north of Highway 50.

“Lower elevation rain and thunderstorms will be ongoing most of the day on Saturday, with rain amounts region-wide on the order of 0.50″ to 1.50″,” Rose said.

Saturday: Showers and possibly a thunderstorm. High near 49. Northeast wind 10 to 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New rainfall amounts between three quarters and one inch possible.

Sunday: A chance of rain and snow showers before 8 a.m., then a chance of rain showers. Some thunder is also possible. Partly sunny, with a high near 56. Breezy, with a north northwest wind 20 to 25 mph decreasing to 15 to 20 mph in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 35 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%. Little or no snow accumulation expected.

Monday: Sunny, with a high near 67. West wind 10 to 15 mph becoming south in the afternoon.

Tuesday: Sunny, with a high near 71. West wind 10 to 15 mph becoming south in the afternoon.
