Colorado Springs weather: Warm and sunny Wednesday, with highs in the mid-70s

Colorado Springs residents should experience a return to spring-like conditions on Wednesday, according to Gazette news partner KOAA.

“Wednesday’s forecast will be great across the Pikes Peak Region thanks to a building ridge of high pressure that will deliver the goods,” Meteorologist Alan Rose said. “We’re expecting mostly sunny to partly cloudy skies today and light breezes in most areas, as highs warm by as much as 5-10 degrees from yesterday.”

Temperatures are expected to reach the mid-70s, Rose said.

Thursday will be warm and windy, with peak gusts during the day around 30-35 mph.

“A slight chance of a shower or thunderstorm will also be possible on Thursday, so you might want to pack the umbrella tomorrow as you head out the door,” Rose said. “Our high on Thursday will warm back into the middle 70s, a few degrees warmer than today.”

On Friday, a better chance for late day showers and thunderstorms is forecast. A wet and cool day will follow on Saturday, with highs in the 50s. Sunday will remain unsettled, with a dry morning and showers and storms Sunday afternoon.

Here is the extended forecast from the National Weather Service:

Thursday: Warm and windy, with a slight chance of showers between noon and 3 p.m. and a high near 75. Breezy, with a west-northwest wind of 5-10 mph and gusts as high as 30 mph.

Friday: A 50% chance of showers and thunderstorms after noon. Partly sunny, with a high near 67. Breezy, with a west northwest wind 10 to 20 mph becoming north in the afternoon. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Saturday: Showers and possibly a thunderstorm. High near 56. North wind 10 to 15 mph becoming east southeast in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 90%.

Sunday: A chance of showers, with thunderstorms also possible after noon. Partly sunny, with a high near 56. Breezy, with a north northwest wind 15 to 20 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%.
