Colorado Springs police say they have the man in custody who they say threw a female from a moving vehicle on Wednesday. The woman later died.

On April 17, around 2:46 p.m., the Colorado Springs Police Department responded to a call of a woman who was thrown from a moving vehicle in the 200 block of South Academy Boulevard. Police reported the woman had “suspicious injuries,” and died at the scene.

Officers located the vehicle they believe to have been involved in the dumping of the woman at 2 a.m. Thursday.

The vehicle attempted to flee, but officers were able to disable the vehicle and force it to stop, according to the police announcement Thursday afternoon.

Driving the car was 33-year-old Nathaniel Buchmann, who was wanted on a warrant for robbery and motor vehicle theft.

Police were awarded an arrest warrant for Buchman Thursday afternoon, on suspicion of second-degree murder, in addition to other charges including vehicular eluding.

Buchmann is listed as still in county jail custody as of 5 p.m. Thursday, being held on a $75,000 bond. A Colorado Springs resident, Buchmann is listed by the El Paso county Sheriff’s Department as having more than two-dozen previous criminal bookings.

The coroner’s office is determining the cause and manner of death of the female. Her identity has not been released as of Thursday evening.

Colorado Springs police note that this is the 12th homicide within the city limits of 2024, twice the number at this time last year.
