Theatreworks will pay homage to classic authors in its upcoming season.

The long-running professional, regional theater company at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs, founded in 1975, will perform adaptations of works by William Shakespeare, Jane Austen and Henry James, along with the Colorado premiere of “The Heart Sellers,” a new play by Lloyd Suh, “Flyin’ West” by modern American playwright Pearl Cleage and others during its recently announced 2024-2025 season.

The lineup:

• Sept. 20-Oct. 13: “Henry IV & V,” by William Shakespeare, directed and adapted by Max Shulman. Shakespeare’s multipart saga chronicles the rise of King Henry V.

• Nov. 29-Dec. 22: “Sense & Sensibility,” by Jane Austen and adapted by Kate Hamill, directed by Caitlin Lowan. In Austen’s first novel, published in 1811, she tells the story of the Dashwood sisters, pragmatic Elinor and sensitive Marianne, as they come of age and experience love and heartbreak.

• Jan. 31-Feb. 16: “The Heart Sellers,” by Lloyd Suh, directed by Jenna Moll Reye. Set around Thanksgiving at a grocery store in the 1970s, two immigrants from the Philippines and Korea bond over being medical student wives, disco, Disneyland and how isolated they feel.

• March 14-April 6: “The Turn of the Screw,” by Henry James and adapted by Jeffrey Hatcher, directed by Kristin Skye Hoffman. Adapted from James’ 1898 horror novella, a naive governess cares for two children in a spooky manor on the moors.

• May 2-25, 2025: “Silent Sky,” by Lauren Gunderson, directed by Caitlin Lowan. Set at Harvard Observatory in 1900 and based on a true story, Henrietta Leavitt begins to record her observations of the night sky and changes the way we see the stars.

• July 11-27, 2025: “Flyin’ West,” by Pearl Cleage, directed by Marisa Hébert. It’s the 1890s in the all-Black town of Nicodemus, Kan., and the Dove sisters are confronted with speculators trying to buy up the community and break up their family.
