Gold Camp Road reopening Saturday after construction closure
A popular scenic drive near Colorado Springs is opening back up this weekend.
The city of Colorado Springs announced on Friday that North Cheyenne Cañon Park, including North Cheyenne Canyon Road and Gold Camp Road, will reopen to vehicles and the public after closures on Saturday.
The roads were closed to allow construction on the extension of the Ladders Trail, a mountain biking trail that runs parallel to the roadway on a ridge above. The 2.5 mile addition connects the Captain Jacks trail to Gold Camp Road and Stratton Open Space, with a new trail interchange at the intersection with the Captain Morgan’s Trail west of the roadway.
According to the release, several shorter closures may occur over the coming weeks.
“We would like to thank the public for their patience as we work to improve North Cheyenne Cañon Park, enhance the user experience and create a safer more enjoyable environment,” said David Deitemeyer, Trails, Open Space and Parks (TOPS) Sr. Program Administrator.
