Colorado Springs weather: Sunny and clear on Thursday prior to balmy weekend

Colorado Springs residents will see a sunny, mild Thursday, with temperatures nearing 60 degrees, according to Gazette news partner KOAA.

“So far this week, we’ve been lucky, with mild and dry days and relatively light breezes,” said KOAA meteorologist Alan Rose. “Today’s forecast will continue that streak, with plenty of sunshine expected this afternoon from the mountains to the Plains, and slightly warmer temperatures.”

A high pressure system is expected to push temperatures into the 70s over the weekend, Rose said.

“Southwesterly gusts this weekend will be slightly stronger than Friday, ranging from 20-30 mph. An area of low pressure that moves inland over California this weekend will bring around 10 degrees of cooling to our forecast by next Monday along with the possibility of an afternoon shower or thunderstorm.”

Here is the extended forecast from the National Weather Service:

Friday: Sunny, with a high near 73. West wind 5 to 15 mph becoming south southwest in the afternoon.

Saturday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 77. West northwest wind 10 to 15 mph.

Sunday: Sunny, with a high near 76. Northwest wind 5 to 15 mph becoming south in the afternoon.

Monday: A 30 percent chance of showers after noon. Mostly sunny, with a high near 69. Breezy, with a south southwest wind 10 to 15 mph increasing to 15 to 20 mph in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 30 mph.

Tuesday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 67. Breezy, with a west southwest wind 15 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph.
