Colorado College’s senior defenseman Jack Millar signs with AHL’s Ontario Reign
Senior defenseman Jack Millar has been at a crossroads between pro hockey and a fifth year at Colorado College.
Millar’s chosen path won’t lead him back to the Tigers. The senior out of Westminster signed with American Hockey League team Ontario Reign an affiliate of the Los Angeles Kings, CC announced Tuesday.
Millar scored a career-best four goals adding eight assists for 12 points with the Tigers this past season.
An assistant captain skating alongside fellow senior Nicklas Andrews as the team’s top defensive pairing, Millar helped lead the Tigers to a 21-win season, the program’s best since 2010-2011. CC finished in a tie for third place in the National Collegiate Hockey Conference this past year — another high mark for the program dating back to the 2008-2009 season.
In the Tigers’ final news conference of the season, Millar said he was down to two options: return to CC for another year or play professionally. CC coach Kris Mayotte said that initially Millar indicated he would return to the Tigers but after a second pitch from Ontario he decided to move on to the next level.
“It is good for him. We’re excited for him. He’s worked hard for the opportunity,” Mayotte said.
Millar is the second Tiger to move on to a professional career. Fifth-year defenseman Connor Mayer signed with the Utah Grizzlies of the ECHL last week.
The Reign play at Toyota Arena in Ontario, Calif.
Former Air Force defenseman Luke Rowe also plays for the Reign.
