Before the boy bands of the ’90s, there were the boy bands of the ’70s and ’80s.

Rock bands Foreigner and Loverboy will perform Oct. 2 at Sunset Amphitheater. Tickets go on sale 10 a.m. Friday. Call 888-929-7849 or go to axs.com.

Foreigner dropped its self-titled debut album in 1977 and found fame with the songs “Feels Like the First Time” and “Cold as Ice.” A year later, the band hit it big with its second album, “Double Vision,” and its two hits, the title track and “Hot Blooded.” Other popular songs include “Urgent,” “Waiting for a Girl Like You,” “Juke Box Hero” and “I Want to Know What Love Is.”

Loverboy shot out of Canada around the same time and became known for its hits “Turn Me Loose,” “Working for the Weekend,” “When It’s Over” and “Queen of the Broken Hearts.” The band’s last single, “Release,” came out in 2022.

The two groups join an ever-lengthening list of concerts at the new open-air, 8,000-seat venue opening this summer on the city’s north side, southeast of Interstate 25 and North Gate Boulevard in the Polaris Pointe development.

Pop rock band OneRepublic will christen the venue with three consecutive shows Aug. 9-11. The first two nights are sold out.

This summer’s lineup also includes pop rock band Barenaked Ladies Sept. 21, classic rockers Lynyrd Skynyrd and ZZ Top Sept. 28, contemporary Christian artist Lauren Daigle Aug. 23, and comedian Jim Gaffigan Sept. 13.
