At least two motorists were transported to area hospitals following a multiple-vehicle crash in northeast Colorado Springs on Sunday afternoon, according to police officials.

A social media post from the Colorado Springs Fire Department reported that at least one person was in critical condition.

The pileup took place at about 12:15 p.m. in the westbound lanes of Woodmen Road, just east of Union Boulevard. Police officers and firefighters tended to several injured persons at the scene, CSPD said.

As of 2 p.m., at least three vehicles, all showing significant damage, were still at the scene as CSPD personnel diverted westbound Woodmen traffic onto northbound Union Boulevard. Several lanes were closed as investigators collected evidence.

CSPD stated that at least one arrest had been made, but no names had been released as of Sunday afternoon.

“Speed, red light running and drugs may all be factors in this crash,” a police official stated in a blotter entry.
