Colorado Springs weather: Warm and windy, with Red Flag fire danger

Colorado Springs saw its first 70-degree day of 2024 on Thursday, and Friday is expected to be even warmer, according to Gazette news partner KOAA.

But steady 5 to 15 mph winds, with gusts of up to 40 mph, mean increased fire potential in the region. A red flag warning will be in effect from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday.

“Friday will be our warmest day of the week and our warmest day of the year so far,” said KOAA Meteorologist Alex O’Brien. “But it will be rather windy with gusts to 40 mph in Colorado Springs. The wind and low humidity increase fire danger. Do not create sparks outdoors!”

Here’s the full forecast from the National Weather Service:

Saturday: A 40% chance of showers in the morning and early afternoon. Expect partly sunny skies and a high of 51 degrees.

Sunday: Expect sunny skies and a high of 58 degrees.

Monday: A 20% chance of showers in the afternoon. Expect partly sunny skies and a high of 55 degrees.

Tuesday: A chance of snow showers before 5pm, then a chance of rain and snow showers. Partly sunny, with a high near 47. North northeast wind around 10 mph becoming southeast in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 50%.

Wednesday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 54. North wind 10 to 15 mph.
