A motorcyclist died Tuesday afternoon after what police said was a suspected hit-and-run DUI collision.
Colorado Springs police said that around 1:35 p.m. dispatch received a call of a sedan car that had been traveling southbound on South Academy Boulevard, when it turned left in front of a motorcyclist in a northbound lane, causing a crash near the Astrozon Boulevard intersection, according to CSPD spokesperson Caitlin Ford.
The sedan driver then fled the scene, “striking multiple property items,” according to the police blotter.
The motorcycle driver died at the scene.
“A witness called us and reported the incident and the location of the driver,” Ford said.
Police believe impairment was a factor in this crash. The driver, whose identity was not immediately available via the police, will face charges of vehicular homicide, felony hit-and-run and DUI, according to Ford.
The crash and ensuing police and medical response forced the closure of South Academy Boulevard between El Morro Road and Astrozon Boulevard.
