The Broadmoor is set to host the Soli Deo Gloria choir for a free performance Easter weekend.
The hourlong performance by the nondenominational choir will celebrate the choir’s 50th anniversary as well as the Easter holiday.
“I think that our community outreach has been expanding, and given that it is Soli Deo Gloria’s 50th anniversary year and they do such a wonderful job singing and they have beautiful voices — it just seemed like the right thing to do,” said Krista Heinicke, The Broadmoor’s director of public relations.
The organization, founded in 1973, is a nonaudition community choir that sings sacred chorale music. While the bulk of the music the choir performs is Christian, it also pays homage to other faiths.

The free concert will feature music celebrating the entire journey of Holy Week from Palm Sunday to Easter, said Nathaniel Voelker, the choir’s artistic director and conductor. The singers will also be accompanied by 10 instrumentalists who will be playing instruments including a piano, flute, cello, French horn and violin.
Made up of more than 100 members, the singers of Soli Deo Gloria range in age from teenagers to those approaching their 90s. The performance will also feature a smaller ensemble of the choir that is audition-based, who will sing several songs including “Domine, ad adjuvandum me.”
“It’s just a really, really fun work, featuring a quartet of soloists,” Voelker said.

The concert will conclude with American spiritual “Praise His Holy Name” by Keith Hampton — a song that’s “always an audience favorite,” Voelker said.
“I think what will make it really special is the opportunity to experience this at the Broadmoor, but also it’s a great opportunity for the community to come together for the celebration of Easter weekend with a really, really unique and exciting set of music,” Voelker said.
While the concert is free, admission is ticketed and must be reserved in advance.
Audience donations are encouraged but not required.
