Mountain Metro Transit announces schedule changes coming this spring
The Colorado Springs Mountain Metropolitan Transit System announced a few changes that will effect bus services this spring, according to a Friday morning news release.
Officials said beginning on April 28, MMT will be extending Route 18 from its current end point at Boulder Avenue and Bonfoy Street to a new end point along Eastlake Boulevard.
The extension will add an additional 15 minutes to the frequency of the bus, altering the current 45-minute duration to an hour in between pick-ups. Additionally, six new bus stops will be added to the route, and the Boulder and Bonfoy stop will be removed.
Secondly, MMT will be adding two new stops along Route 38 — one outbound and one inbound, along Dublin Boulevard and Union Boulevard, according to MMT officials.
Lastly, the transit system will be removing the two additional hours of services typically afforded on Independence Day. Rather, the schedule will operate as normal on the holiday, officials said.
According to MMT spokesperson Elaine Sheridan , these changes are not seasonal, and are permanent.
“The reason for the Route 18 extension is to increase ridership by servicing a larger area and improving connections to other routes throughout the transit system,” Sheridan said.
In regards to the changes along Route 38, “the new bus stops are intended to increase accessibility and ridership for people at Union and Dublin boulevards,” according to Sheridan.
