The City of Champions is getting national recognition in the sports business world.

Colorado Springs was recently ranked eighth in top sports business cities without a “Top 5 Major Sports Team” by Sports Business Journal.

“We focus on the cities that have been the most successful at attracting and hosting sporting events, which are major economic drivers for these communities,” Sports Business Journal wrote to explain their rankings.

Sports Business Journal lists many of the efforts Colorado Springs has made in the last decade to increase sports tourism. Including four new venues, the opening of the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Museum and the utilization of Falcon Stadium for national events.

The journal specifically mentions the success of last year’s International Jump Rope Union World Championship.

“That event drew more than 1,500 athletes from 24 countries and more than 7,000 spectators to the 3-year-old Ed Robson Arena,” the report said.

Fort Worth, Texas, Greensboro, North Carolina, and Birmingham, Alabama, took the top three spots in this category.
