Country stars hit Colorado Springs on their ‘Roots & Boots’ tour
On Thursday, three of the voices who helped define country music in the 1990s are taking the stage at Boot Barn Hall. Aaron Tippin, Sammy Kershaw and Collin Raye will relive history through their list of chart-topping hits on their “Roots & Boots” tour.
The military folks of Colorado Springs may recognize Tippin’s track “You’ve Got to Stand for Something,” which became a well-known anthem within the communities of soldiers who were fighting in the Gulf War around 1991. “You’ve Got to Stand for Something” stresses the necessity of having an uncompromising attitude toward one’s core values, the importance of gratitude and the gravity of independence.
“You’ve got to stand for something or you’ll fall for anything / You’ve got to be your own man not a puppet on a string,” some of the final lines of the track ring.
The song peaked at No. 6 on Billboard Hot Country Singles & Tracks charts upon its release, and the nature of the track as well as Tippin’s debut status solidified him as a force in the Nashville country music scene.
Tippin’s story didn’t begin or end with “You’ve Got to Stand for Something.” He competed on TNN’s “You Can Be a Star” talent contest in 1986 and signed an RCA Nashville contract after his first performance at a Nashville nightclub performance in 1990. After 9/11, Tippin released another of his famous tracks, “Where the Stars and Stripes and Eagle Fly.” Despite being written two years prior, the track saw light when Tippin and his producers released it as a benefit single for the American Red Cross.
“I always enjoy singing my song ‘Where The Stars and Stripes and the Eagle Fly,’” Tippin said. “It gets the crowd up on their feet and I love seeing all of the patriotism throughout America. We live in the greatest country on Earth!”
Over the course of his career, Tippin has released 11 studio albums and has graced the No. 1 slot of Billboard Hot Country songs three times.
Alongside Tippin on the charts, Raye has had 30 singles chart 1991-2007 like “Love, Me,” “In This Life” and “On the Verge.” Kershaw has a similar track record with hits like “She Don’t Know She’s Beautiful” and “Cadillac Style.”
Tippin, Raye and Kershaw all shaped the sound of country music in the ’90s, and with the help of Boot Barn Hall, they’ll be able to share that success decades later with Colorado Springs.
“The Roots and Boots show is just a blast. It’s hit after hit of all of our songs through the years and then we throw in a few surprises too,” Tippin said. “We are so fortunate that the folks still enjoy our music and they bring the next generation or two with them.”
“Boot Barn Hall is built on a world-class standard of hospitality and entertainment,” Chloe Hoeft, representative of Boot Barn Hall, said on behalf of the venue. “We are committed to presenting our community with a place to gather, share experiences, and see their favorite artists up close and personal. The Hall is a popular destination for corporate gatherings, weddings, fundraisers and even high school graduations, but our roots are grounded in good ol’ country music.”
