Popular comedian joins lineup at Sunset Amphitheater

Jim Gaffigan will bring his observational humor back to the Pikes Peak region this summer.

The clean comedian’s “Barely Alive Tour” will alight at Sunset Amphitheater Sept. 13.

Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday. Call 888-929-7849 or go online to sunsetamphitheater.live or axs.com.

Gaffigan, who was last in Colorado Springs in 2019 at Broadmoor World Arena, is a fan of making the mundane funny. He loves to riff on being a father to five kids, food and Catholicism. The comic also starred in the TV Land series, “The Jim Gaffigan Show,” based on his life, and wrote the best-selling 2013 memoir “Dad is Fat,” as well as “Food: A Love Story” in 2014.

He’s the first comedian to join the roster at the new 8,000-seat, open-air venue on the city’s north side, southeast of Interstate 25 and North Gate Boulevard in the Polaris Pointe development.

The amphitheater will open Aug. 9 with a sold-out concert by pop-rock band OneRepublic. Other recently announced shows include country singer Dierks Bentley on Aug. 30, rock band Primus on Aug. 24 and Americana duo Alison Krauss and Robert Plant on Aug. 31.

Shows will continue to be announced weekly. The venue is expected to host at least 20 events this summer.
