March in like a lion | Teller gives back

The phrase, “March in like a lion, out like a lamb” is something you’ve heard before. Some say it is connected to the weather while others believe it is a connection to the stars (constellations).

For me, a song comes to mind when the word march begins a sentence. The first line of the song is “Step inside, walk this way, you and me babe, hey hey.” Do you know the song I’m referencing? It is def! And, the word def means EXCELLENT! Def is also a clue about the band that sings the song. I’ll give you time to think about it.

March definitely brings spring, which is when nonprofits spring into action for summer activities. You know the old standbys are still happening at the beginning of July. The 4th of July Celebration is from 9 – 3 p.m. on the patriotic day and then the Symphony Above the Clouds is planned for that evening. Both of these events have history in Woodland Park and provide a roaring good time.

John Wesley Ranch, Divide Mountain Explorers and the Lions Club are the planning group for the daytime activities on July 4. The Mountain Eire dancers will perform again. Would your group like to also perform? Let the planning group know by emailing johnwesleyranch@gmail.com. Each of these nonprofits are part of SOAR’s Nonprofit Cooperative.

But, I sprang too far into the future and forgot to mention the Easter Egg Hunt hosted by the Divide Mountain Explorers on Saturday March 30, 11 – 2 p.m. at Memorial Park. OVER 3000 eggs are involved in the hunt and it is free for participants. You can learn more by emailing dividemountainexplorers@gmail.com. Sara and Mike Demuth are committed to helping children of all ages through the Explorers group. I had an opportunity to visit a meeting in February, which was a chili cook-off. The leaders of this group are kids and they are doing great things for the community. Thank you for being def AKA excellent, Divide Mountain Explorers! You are going to make life better for the people of Teller County because of your service.

I’ve talked a lot about the lion but what about the lamb? Currently, a lambskin coat comes to mind because we are not feeling the warmth of spring yet. I believe “out like a lamb” is a soft approach to moving into what’s next. Let’s March forward into summer in a safe and purposeful way.

Hey, did you get the song I referenced earlier? I want to give the band credit and I’m sure the song is about sweetening your cereal in the morning. It is “Pour Some Sugar On Me” by Def Leppard. Have a def day!
