Excessive speed leads to fatal rollover crash and vehicle fire in Colorado Springs
Colorado Springs police say excessive speed caused a deadly rollover crash and vehicle fire on Saturday.
The crash took place just before 9 p.m. in the 5900 block of North Academy Boulevard, just north of Austin Bluffs Parkway on the city’s east side, according to police officials.
When emergency personnel responded to a call about the single-vehicle crash, they found a vehicle on fire and later discovered the driver was dead inside, police said.
Investigators determined that the vehicle was traveling south on Academy “at a high rate of speed” when it lost control on a curve in the road, veered into the northbound lanes, and struck a curb before rolling over and catching fire.
A section of Academy Boulevard was closed for several hours while investigators processed the scene, officials said. The driver’s name was not released.
