Colorado Springs police K-9 Milo helps take down wanted parolee; guns, drugs seized in arrest
K-9 Milo has done it again.
On Friday, the Colorado Springs police dog was instrumental in an arrest that yielded several rifles, pistols and illegal narcotics, including hundreds of fentanyl pills.
At about 11:30 a.m. Friday, a Colorado Department of Corrections officer saw a wanted parolee enter a business in the 500 block of East Platte Avenue in east Colorado Springs, police said. The officer, who was attached to CSPD’s Metro Armed Violent Offender Unit, believed the parolee to be armed and dangerous and contacted tactical officers to assist in an arrest.
Tactical teams, including K-9 Milo and his handler, moved into the area and blocked the parolee when he returned to his vehicle. After unsuccessfully trying to ram his way out, the suspect left his vehicle and tried to get away on foot. That’s when he encountered Milo and “wisely dove to the ground to surrender,” police said.
Police saw a loaded handgun and several boxes of ammunition in the man’s car. A further search turned up more than 800 fentanyl pills and “a large quantity of cash,” officials said.
After obtaining and executing a search warrant, officers found an additional two assault rifles, three stolen pistols and more illegal drugs, “all linked to the parolee,” police said. The apprehended fugitive’s name was not released.
The CSPD police dog is no stranger to suspect apprehensions. In October 2021, Milo ran down an armed robbery suspect after a vehicle pursuit became a foot chase. In March of last year, he helped officers catch a suspected violent offender in southeast Colorado Springs.
K-9 Milo was instrumental in the Friday arrest of a wanted parolee. The arrest netted six guns and a large quantity of illegal narcotics, including more than 800 fentanyl pills.
