Several roads around Colorado Springs will see closures in March, the Colorado Department of Transportation announced on Friday. 

South Academy Boulevard Closures

Two sections of South Academy Boulevard near Fort Carson will see construction closures the week of March 3. 

CDOT said on Friday that all of South Academy Boulevard will be closed under Interstate 25 starting on March 3 at 7 p.m. for the westbound lane and 8 p.m. for the eastbound lane. 

The closure will allow CDOT crews to remove temporary construction material from the new I-25 bridge over South Academy Boulevard, according to a release from the department. 

Eastbound traffic will be detoured south on I-25 to Colorado Highway 16, exit 132A to then turn around and re-enter I-25 north to South Academy Boulevard. Westbound traffic will be diverted north on I-25 to Lake Avenue/South Circle Drive, exit 138, to then re-enter I-25 south to South Academy Boulevard.

Westbound Academy will reopen on Monday, March 4, at 4:30 a.m., while eastbound reopens at 6 a.m. Monday. 

Farther north along South Academy Boulevard, an additional closure is planned for the northbound exit onto Bradley Road on Friday, March 8. CDOT says the closure is in order to allow crews to install drainage pipes across the roadway. The left lane of north and southbound Academy remain closed over Bradley Road for bridgework. 

Traffic will detour past the exit to Milton E. Proby Parkway, then to the Hancock Expressway and back onto Bradley Road.

Meridian Road Closure 

Set to coincide with District 49’s spring break, construction on Meridian Road in northeast Colorado Springs will cause closures beginning on March 18. The section of road provides access to Pikes Peak School of Expeditionary Learning, a kindergarten through eighth grade charter school. 

Meridian will be closed between Rex Road and Antler Ridge Drive from March 18 to March 29. CDOT says crews will be working to widen the road and move a gas line. 

A five-minute detour will be placed utilizing Ayer, Goodson and Rex Roads.

The construction is part of a larger $9.9 million plan to enlarge Meridian and Rex Roads, including putting in a traffic light.
