Colorado Springs police officer sustains minor injuries in rollover crash Sunday

Colorado Springs police investigate alleged break-in, shots fired

A Colorado Springs police officer was involved in a rollover crash on the east side of the city on Sunday evening, according to law enforcement officials.

The officer, whose name was not released, sustained minor injuries, police said.

At approximately 6:20 p.m. Sunday, the officer was making a left turn at the intersection of North Academy Boulevard and East Platte Avenue when a red pickup truck ran a red light and broadsided the officer’s vehicle, causing it to roll over onto its roof.

After the officer got out of his vehicle, the second driver admitted to running the red light and was arrested for several traffic charges, including Driving Under the Influence (DUI), police said. The arrested driver’s name was not released.
