Hanover School District 28’s interim Superintendent Mark McPherson was named the sole finalist for the superintendent vacancy by the district’s Board of Education during its regular meeting Wednesday evening.
McPherson was appointed as the district’s interim superintendent Nov. 27 for the remainder of the 2023-24 school year after the resignation of Paul Calvert on Nov. 18.
McPherson has previously worked as a teacher for the district from 1999 to 2005 as well as an administrator in Woodland Park RE-2, Pueblo City Schools and School District D-49.
He currently serves as the owner and operator of McPherson Consulting, which specializes in management, curriculum development and leadership for educational organizations of both private and public K-12 school systems.
McPherson succeeded Calvert after only three months into a signed contract, where he and the board faced allegations by staff that the district had mishandled its tax filings. These alleged mishandlings preceded Calvert’s time with the district.
Following Calvert’s resignation, board members proposed five possible options ranging from starting an immediate superintendent search to waiting for the “optimal superintendent hiring season.”
They also suggested hiring the Colorado Association of School Boards to conduct a national search on their behalf before ultimately concluding that McPherson displayed “the necessary skills, experience and credentials for such a role” since he was selected as the interim superintendent.
He was unanimously voted by the board as the sole finalist at the meeting.
There is a 14-day waiting period during which the board seeks input and answers questions from the community before making a final decision. All input and questions can be sent to board@hanoverhornets.org.
