Colorado Springs ‘peeping Tom’ suspect waives right to preliminary hearing
The man allegedly behind a sexual assault and a spree of peeping tom incidents waived his right to a preliminary hearing Friday morning in court.
Troy Deck, 54, was arrested in both Dec. and Jan. is facing a plethora of charges related to crimes occurring between Dec. 2022 and Dec. 2023 including at least 13 counts of invasion of privacy for sexual gratification, a sexual assault, an instance of stalking and at least two counts of failing to register as a sex offender.
Deck appeared in-person to his pre-trial conference Friday morning, waiving his right to a preliminary hearing on the charges accrued on Jan. 16.
According to Deck’s legal council, the decision to waive the preliminary hearing is to allow for further discussion with the prosecution ahead of the disposition hearing.
Deck had previously waived his right to a preliminary hearing on the two counts of failing to register as a sex offender, and the instance of stalking in court on Jan. 25.
A preliminary hearing is often waived by a defendant when a plea bargain is offered, or in the process of being discussed.
Disposition hearings are typically scheduled as a way to discuss a resolution within the case without going to trial.
Deck’s next appearance in court is scheduled for April 17. At that time Deck will be given the opportunity to change his plea to guilty, or non-contest if there is a proposed plea agreement.
