The Peppertree restaurant, 888 W. Moreno Ave., has temporarily closed to remodel the entrance, bar and dining area.

“We had originally planned to start the project Jan. 1 and open the week of Valentine’s Day,” said Max Levy, who owns the eatery with his mom and brothers. “We had some delays and decided to wait until after Valentine’s Day. Instead, we closed Feb.19 and plan to be open again in April.”

Levy said they had been throwing around the idea of refreshing the interior since 2021 and started working with Senger Design Group.

“We started getting ready for the project a few months ago,” he said. “We got new dishes, menu books and chairs last winter. We are basically beautifying everything except the kitchen. We are super excited. We have the best staff ever. We are celebrating the 40th anniversary of the restaurant. We feel incredibly fortunate to have such an excellent customer base.”

He said his dad had refreshed the dining room when he bought the restaurant 20 years ago.

“We’re not doing anything dramatic, just cosmetic,” he said. ”And the core menu will not change. Dishes like our tableside pepper steak and steak Diane are carved in stone. They’re not going anywhere. We’ll continue to have seasonal menu changes.”

Two culinary fundraisers worthy of getting a ticket to attend will take place at The Broadmoor’s Cheyenne Lodge, 4199 S Club Drive, in March. Here are the details:

• March 9, 5-8 p.m., is the Henry Trujillo Memorial Scholarship Soiree by Pikes Peak State College. It’s a celebration of the legacy of chef Henry Trujillo, the Broadmoor’s executive chef for 36 years and a treasured member of the Pikes Peak State College culinary family. For $75 you will enjoy dishes prepared by the college’s culinary students, instructors and guest chefs using ingredients from local food producers, paired with local beers and Colorado wines.
