Freshmen stand out, but Air Force women fall in blowout at UNLV
Mountain West-leading UNLV had little trouble dismantling Air Force on Saturday.
The Rebels shot 60%, committed just seven turnovers against a Falcons defense that leads the conference in that category and coasted to a 95-68 victory in Las Vegas.
UNLV (22-2, 12-1 Mountain West) led 24-12 after one quarter and 49-26 at the break. It outscored AFA 64-28 in the paint, 16-9 on fast breaks and led 42-33 in rebounds.
Air Force (12-15, 5-9) was led by Milahnie Perry’s 23 points, as she made 7-of-20 shots. Alexis Cortez scored 18 on 8-of-11 shooting, the freshman’s third consecutive game in double digits after hitting that mark just twice in the season’s first 24 games.
Another Falcons freshman, Jayda McNabb, had nine points and a season-high 15 rebounds – including 10 on the offensive glass, adding to her conference lead.
Desi-Rae Young led UNLV with 19 points.
Air Force’s Alexis Cortez passes in between two players on the ground against UNM on Saturday, Jan. 27, 2024.
