{PRINT] Mountain Metro Transit proposes spring service changes (copy)
Mountain Metropolitan Transit is proposing adding eight new bus stops on two of its routes beginning this spring.
The service changes are part of regular updates to the transit service’s routes every spring and fall, spokeswoman Elaine Sheridan said Wednesday. The city enterprise makes service decisions based on route performance reviews as well as requests and comments from customers and the broader community.
“We look at all these and look to see where we can improve service for our riders,” she said.
The transit service then publicly recommends the changes and residents have the opportunity to comment.
Mountain Metro Transit proposes the following service changes to be implemented April 28:
• Route 18 runs seven days a week along Union Boulevard and the transit service plans to extend the route by just over a mile, from its current endpoint at East Boulder Street and Bonfoy Avenue to a new endpoint at Eastlake Boulevard/1912 Eastlake.
Frequency along Route 18 will go from 45 minutes to 60 minutes. Proposed service changes on this route include the addition of six new bus stops along Union, near East Willamette Avenue, East Bijou Street and South Parkside Drive. The bus stop at Boulder/Bonfoy would be eliminated.
• Route 38 runs Monday through Friday, also along Union Boulevard. The transit service proposes adding one outbound stop and one inbound stop near Union and Dublin boulevards.
• Eliminating the additional two hours of added evening service on Independence Day.
These changes “are meant to increase ridership, improve connectivity between bus routes and improve overall transit availability for the community. The elimination of the additional two hours of added evening service on Independence Day was a result of lower ridership on this holiday and limited driver availability,” Sheridan said.
It was unclear Wednesday what the cost associated with the changes will be, but they will not require more buses or drivers, she said.
Residents can submit feedback on the proposed service changes through Feb. 27 by phone at 719-385-7433 or by email at transitinfo@coloradosprings.gov.
