Colorado Springs art theater to host Valentine’s Day comedy show ‘Lovette’
Spend an evening this weekend with the outrageous Babette at The Millibo Art Theatre.
The Valentine’s Day comedy show “Lovette” will feature everything from granny burlesque dancers to roadhouse country singers and tap dancers, all hosted by The MAT’s Babette.
“It’s really playful,” said Birgitta De Pree, who plays Babette. “It’s interactive. It’s a little bit cabaret, a little bit outrageous, and often people leave feeling very alive.”
During the show, Babette and friends explore what love means among a unique cast of characters in a coffee shop. The show features guests such as dancer and singer Zach Guzman and comedian Hannah Rockey.

“This year, Babette’s on a quest,” De Pree said. “Love’s not this sappy thing with puppies and candy; it’s get your feet in the mud, it’s the nitty gritty.”
The best part of the show is incorporating the crowd, De Pree said.
“Babette is very engaged with the audience and sort of inviting them into the show and finding the comedy of it,” she said. “They come to the Millibo and it’s really inviting, and Babette’s in the lobby before the show begins.”
De Pree has been playing the character of Babette for years — so much so, it’s become a part of her.
“Once I put my costume on, I am Babette,” she said. “Sometimes people don’t know that it’s a character. And that’s fun to meet them in the lobby so that you’re sort of blurring the lines of audience and play, and you’re bringing them in on this silly romp.”
Overall, De Pree said, the audience should expect a fun, relaxing night.
“It’s a really easy evening, a really joyful evening, a good night out,” she said. “At least that’s what we work for.”
