VIDEO: Moose spotted on the slopes of Colorado resort

It looks like another moose sighting has taken place at Winter Park Resort. A video clip posted to Instagram by i70things and mtn.things shows the moose make its way across a ski run.

Moose typically aren’t aggressive, and this one thankfully seemed to be just passing through. However, a moose that becomes agitated or stressed can behave aggressively and can be very dangerous to encounter.

If you do encounter a moose or any other wildlife on the slopes, here are some tips on what to do:

1. Stop and be sure to give the animal plenty of space.

2. Make sure the animal has an escape path – when animals feel trapped, they’re more likely to become defensive.

3. Warn other uphill skiers if necessary. This can help prevent collisions and other unpleasant wildlife encounters.

4. Move along if you can. Giving the animal its space is the best way to diffuse the situation. However, if it means getting closer to the animal, it’s probably best to let the animal continue.

5. Report the encounter to a resort employee. An animal on the slopes could mean closing a run on area to prevent any negative human-wildlife encounters. This is the usually the safest course of action for both the animal and skiers.
