Colorado 67 from Divide to Cripple Creek has reopened in all directions, following a winter weather closure earlier today.

The highway had been closed as of midmorning, according to the Teller County Sheriff’s Office. The closure was lifted as of 1:30 p.m.

The closure extended in both directions between mile marker 53 and 69. 

CDOT warns that road conditions on U.S. 24 through Teller County is icy in spots, and that the area is experiencing wind gusts of up to 35 mph. The commercial vehicle chain law is in effect for the highway. 

The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for all mountain ranges of southwest and south-central Colorado into Thursday. CDOT cautions that travel is expected to be difficult on all regional mountain passes with heavy, blowing snow and low visibility. Freezing temperatures will also create icy and slick road conditions.

If possible, avoid or limit travel in these areas. If you must travel, expect safety closures due to the expected adverse weather conditions. Central mountain areas, including I-70 are also expected to have snow and changing travel conditions through the duration of this storm event.

• Adequate snow tires or alternate traction devices are likely to be required for passenger vehicles.
• Delays for winter operations and snow removal are to be expected on mountain passes.
• Safety closures are probable due to snow amounts and avalanche potential.
