On Wednesday morning, Colorado Parks and Wildlife published some incredible footage of a ‘Colorado-style’ traffic jam.

The video was captured by a person named Kyle in the Creede area, showing off dozens of elk crossing a road over the course of about 15 seconds. A pronghorn is seen tagging along with the tail-end of the elk herd, too.

It’s no secret that wildlife is never far in Colorado. When driving around the state, always be on the lookout for animals that may end up in the road.

If you happen to spot an animal crossing the road, the best thing to do is to stop and wait for it to move – but only when it’s safe to do so. Avoid stopping on rolling hills or around blind turns where visibility may be limited among those approaching your vehicle from behind.

If you’re not in a safe place to stop, navigate around the animal in a controlled and safe manner when possible. If an animal collision is imminent, do not slam on your brakes or swerve, as this can result in a loss of control. Sometimes and unfortunately, striking the animal is the safest option.
