[PRINT] New Sunset Amphitheater in Colorado Springs announces second show (copy)

Nothing says summer like The Beach Boys.

The quintessential ’60s surf band will be the second group to grace the stage at the new open-air Sunset Amphitheater set to open this summer on the city’s north side. They’ll bring their new “Endless Summer Gold” tour to town Aug. 16. Tickets go on sale Friday. Go online to sunsetamphitheater.live, axs.com or thebeachboys.com.

OneRepublic, the popular pop rock band founded more than two decades ago in Colorado Springs by lead singer Ryan Tedder and lead guitarist Zach Filkins, recently was announced as the inaugural act at the 8,000-seat venue southeast of Interstate 25 and North Gate Boulevard in the Polaris Pointe development. They’ll perform Aug. 9. Tickets go on sale Saturday.

The Beach Boys’ harmony-filled hits are endless: “Good Vibrations,” “Kokomo,” “Wipe Out,” “Help Me, Rhonda,” “Surfin’ USA.” Since their debut album, “Surfin’ Safari,” dropped in 1962, they’ve had 36 hits in the U.S. Top 40, four of which hit No. 1.

Founded in Hawthorne, Calif., in 1961, the group’s original members boasted three brothers: Brian Wilson, Carl Wilson and Dennis Wilson, their cousin Mike Love and Al Jardine. Most of the band’s earliest musicians no longer are with the group, except for lead singer Love and singer, keyboard and bass player Bruce Johnston, who joined in 1965.

Notes Live is the Springs entertainment company behind the new $90 million amphitheater. Founder, chairman and CEO J.W. Roth says the venue will host 20 A-list shows this summer, plus other smaller acts. New shows will be announced almost every week throughout February.
