Vietnam veteran was in the village, in the moment, immortalized by ‘napalm girl’
Joseph Billot, an ROTC graduate with aspirations for a military career, volunteered for service in Vietnam despite the cancellation of orders sending him there. Arriving in South Vietnam in 1971, during the war’s final stages, Billot served as an Army officer in Trảng Bàng, witnessing the harsh realities of war and the infamous “napalm girl” incident captured by Associated Press photographer Nick Ut.
