Traffic advisories around Colorado Springs for next week

Colorado Springs-area motorists may see some additional roadwork and detours next week.

The ongoing construction project to add acceleration and deceleration lanes for Interstate 25 at the Garden of the Gods exit is continuing. As part of that work, Ellston Street will be completely closed, from Feb. 5 at 7 a.m. through through 5 p.m. on Feb. 9.

Sinton Trail will remain open, though flaggers will be in place to help ensure the safety of pedestrians and cyclists.

The construction project, scheduled to take through Nov. 2025 to complete, will require a closure of the Stinton Trail, but not until November, according to a press release put out by CDOT.

Academy and I-25

As part of ongoing road work to widen South Academy Boulevard, and to improve safety and access to portions of Fort Carson, there will be additional road closures next week.

On the southern end of the city, drivers should be aware of a right lane closure on westbound South Academy Boulevard on Feb. 5, from the I-25 southbound off-ramp to Venetucci Boulevard to address drainage issues.

Also, there will be a full closure of the northbound South Academy Boulevard off-ramp to US 85/85, from 7 p.m. on Feb. 9, through 11 a.m. on Feb. 10.

The closure is designed to allow crews to perform drainage work across the roadway.

El Paso County put out a traffic advisory on Friday, warning that all entrance ramps at the US 85/87, I-25 and South Academy Boulevard intersections have shorter merge lengths during ongoing construction in the area. In particular, the advisory warns that motorists should be prepared to stop on the US 85/87 on-ramp to eastbound South Academy boulevard.

Ongoing closures, including a left lane closure for north- and southbound south Academy Boulevard over Bradley Road will continue to allow crews to perform bridge work.

Additionally, southbound I-25 will see alternating right and left lane closures between the Academy Boulevard and Santa Fe Avenue exits, to allow crews to clean up traffic control devices.

All lane changes and closures are weather dependent.
