Arrest made in October fatal crash

One person has been arrested in connection with a fatal crash in late October, according to the Colorado Springs Police Department.

Police said on the morning of Oct. 28, just after 11 p.m., officers received reports of a crash involving two vehicles near the intersection of North Academy Boulevard and East Platte Avenue.

According to officials, officers on the scene discovered a passenger from one of the involved vehicles had been ejected from the vehicle and was found deceased on the scene. The passenger was identified by the El Paso County Coroner’s Office on Oct. 30 as 24-year-old Mar’Layza West.

Through investigative efforts lead by the police department’s Major Crash Team determined the vehicle involved traveling southbound had been driving recklessly at the time the crash occurred.

Based on the findings of the investigation, detectives then acquired an arrest warrant for 23-year-old Jacinto Gonzalas-Perez of Colorado Springs, officials said.

According to investigators, Gonzalez-Perez turned himself into the El Paso County Jail on Jan. 26. He is facing charges of vehicular homicide and vehicular assault.
