22-year-old woman dies after striking tree at Aspen ski resort

A 22-year-old woman has died after striking a tree at Aspen Highlands Ski Resort on Saturday around 11:30 a.m.

The unidentified female skier was on the Exhibition run at the time of the accident. This is a ‘blue’ intermediate-rated ski run that travels under the the resort’s Exhibition Lift.

Ski patrol responded immediately with the woman being found unconscious and non-responsive. Life-saving measures were conducted but were not successful.

The woman was pronounced deceased at the scene.

This is the third on-resort skiing or snowboarding death to be publicly reported thus far this season in Colorado, with one avalanche-related snowboarding death also taking place in the backcountry. On-resort deaths can be difficult to track though, as there is no official requirement for resorts to report them.
