Monument Med Spa opens in new Palmer Lake location with focus on the future
With a new brick-and-mortar location in Palmer Lake, Monumental Med Spa aspires to demonstrate and help the body heal itself.
Monumental Med Spa opened its new doors at 88 Hwy 105 in Palmer Lake, in the building formerly occupied by Kirkland Photography, last September by owner Trina Shook. For 23 years, Shook was an emergency nurse but in 2010 while working at Skyridge Hospital in Lone Tree, she started taking classes in microdermabrasion and chemical peels at a beauty college.
For $10,000, she soon bought a microdermabrasion machine and began serving clients out of the kitchen in her home, paying off the machine after seven months. After that, she moved to downtown Monument on Washington Street in what was her business’s first brick-and-mortar location, operating as Monumental Microderm. After a year and a half, her business outgrew the three-room location and Shook took her services to a new location, in Palmer Lake, below Bella Panini where she remained almost 10 years.
She rebranded the business as Monumental Med Spa in 2020.
Shook outgrew that location as well. Just prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, she looked to purchase the building on 88 Hwy 105 from Linda Ross, who owned it since it was built.
“She rented it to Kirkland Photography forever, and then Good Medicine came in. They did a lot of the renovations that I would’ve had to have done,” Shook said. “I was trying to buy this before COVID, then I pulled out.”
However, the stars soon aligned allowing Shook to purchase the building and property and open the new Monumental Med Spa location on Sept. 1 of last year with the same branding, staff and operations.
Today, Monumental Med Spa offers a large variety of services including skin treatments, including diamond glow, micro needling and cryotherapy, among many others. Intense pulse light treatments (IPL), laser teeth whitening, injectables services, tixel and CO2 services, waxing, threading and a large variety of esthetician services. Shook is originally from Northern California and moved to the Tri-Lakes area in 2003 from South Texas. She didn’t know anyone in Colorado but was looking to find a home geographically between Northern California, where her family was located and her ex-husband’s family in South Texas. Loving Colorado’s mountains, lakes and location, Shook bought a new home in the Tri-Lakes region after a handful of visits.
However, her interest in skin therapies started in high school.
“I always was interested in doing skin and hair,” Shook said. “My dad wanted me to be an educator, but I think I’ve always had a passion for beauty and helping women feel beautiful on the outside and inside. That’s kind of where my passion comes from. But honestly, I had no idea that it was going to take off like it did.
“My vision has moved more from just making people feel good on the outside to really healing our souls.”
In 2016, Shook lost 13 people to suicide. Being what she feels was the toughest year of her life, she had to do a lot of introspection to figure out “why on earth God was sending me all these people,” she said.
“I realized God put me in a position of trust and a lot of people trust me,” she said. “They trust me with their deepest, darkest secrets, and I feel I know a lot of people’s stories. I’m a great connector and I’m hoping to really build each other up.”
One element of the Monumental Med Spa in the process of being built with priority is a room which already contains an infrared sauna with a halo generator which infuses microns of medical-grade Himalayan sea salt to help with COVID, eczema, psoriasis and recently helped several clients with bad sciatica, Shook said. Severe back pain has also been relieved by the sauna.
Another device presently in-house is called a Beamer, not the car. It’s a pulse magnetic field which increases capillary, blood circulation on the superficial level, she said.
“It basically allows nutrients and oxygen to get back to the injured part so they can actually heal, which is what God intended us to be able to do,” Shook said.
In addition, that room will soon have a “fire and ice tub,” which is a cold plunge which aids people with what Shook describes as a hard reset of themselves. An Artificial Intelligence (AI) massage chair is also included which measures bone density, visceral fat, muscle density and the like. More importantly, it focuses on releasing stored trauma from the body, finds acupuncture points, she said.
“It’s similar to how we as humans only use a small percentage of our brains,” Shook said. “Once we realize we actually can and will start healing ourselves, it’s going to change everything.
“In the medical field, we are still going to need surgeons and those staff, but I think the medical big Pharma is going to collapse. Big Pharma would definitely be in trouble.”
And the treatments and services won’t stop inside the new location’s walls. Several features are planned for the outdoor areas to the property over the coming years. In fact, Shook looks to break ground of new outdoor features, like outdoor showers, a large waterfall, cedar soaking hot tubs, an inground soaking salt-water pool and sound bowl healing, this March.
The outdoor portion of the facility is planned to have events like Yoga Under the Moon and holistic healing ceremonies as well. Shook aspires to start outdoor events this summer.
Among several of Shook’s plans for Monumental Med Spa is a partnership with Tessa. Tessa is a non-profit organization which provides emergency shelter, food, case management, counseling and support for female survivors of abuse and their children. The desire to partner with Tessa comes from Shook’s own history.
“I ended up getting out of a bad situation, but my problem working with Tessa [of Colorado Springs] was because I lived in School District 38,” Shook said. “I couldn’t go into a safe house in the Springs and still get my kids to all the things they needed to do.
“I really feel like we need resources here in our little Palmer Lake and I would love to be able to have a safe house where women can help each other, get people’s kids to school or do whatever. I feel like we have the resources. We just don’t know how to go about connecting all those.”
