Frozen lake west of Colorado Springs makes list of country’s best ‘ice fishing destinations’
Fishing doesn’t stop in Colorado when the snow falls and waters freeze over.
Ice fishing is a great opportunity for winter recreation, and has increased in popularity in Colorado over recent years. That makes is no surprise that a Colorado spot made Fishing Booker’s list of the “ten best ice fishing destinations for 2024.”
The company included Eleven Mile Reservoir on their list, which is located only about an hour west of Colorado Springs, with Fishing Booker labeling it as “one of Colorado’s finest fishing lakes.” As well as providing excellent opportunities to catch trophy-sized fish, the reservoir is surrounded by mountains that provide stunning scenic views.
Even the frozen waters won’t stop fish from biting at Eleven Mile Reservoir. According to Fishing Booker, Eleven Mile is famous for its big rainbow, brown and cutthroat trout, and catches over 17 inches are typical. In addition to trout, anglers might catch Northern Pike and Kokanee Salmon on the lake.
The lake also holds the Colorado Classic tournament every winter, which participants can join in January, February, or March.
